CILICIA. Tarsos. Tarkumuwa (Datames), satrap of Cilicia and Cappadocia, 384-361/0 BC. Stater (Silver, 21 mm, 10.33 g, 5 h), circa 380-379. Female head facing slightly to the left, wearing pearl necklace. Rev. TRKMW (in Aramaic) Bearded and helmeted male head (Ares?) to right; to left, rectangular countermark: 'BAL' (in Aramaic) above a man-headed bull standing right, head facing. Casabonne series 3. SNG Levante 79. SNG Paris 264. Some flatness on the obverse corresponding to the countermark on the reverse, and a small scuff on Ares' eye, otherwise, very fine.

From a German collection, privately acquired from Dr. Michael Brandt in the late 1990s and early 2000s.
